White box testing is a form of testing or auditing in which the tester has full, uninhibited access to the system and/or full technical details pertaining to the inner workings of the system. The term "white box" stems from the fact that the system details are transparent or "white" to the tester. This is in contrast to black box testing whereby the details of the system being tested are unknown to the tester, thereby making the system details opaque or "black."
